Is Pakistan not among America's priorities?
By: Masood Hussain Geffery
Pakistan has historically been an important partner for the United States, particularly in the areas of:
1. *Counter-terrorism*: Pakistan's cooperation has been crucial in combating terrorist organizations, such as al-Qaeda and the Taliban.
2. *Regional stability*: Pakistan plays a significant role in maintaining regional stability, given its strategic location and influence in Afghanistan.
3. *Economic interests*: The US has significant economic interests in Pakistan, including trade, investment, and energy cooperation.
4. *Security cooperation*: The two countries have a long-standing security relationship, with the US providing military aid and cooperation to Pakistan.
However, the US-Pakistan relationship has experienced fluctuations in recent years, with:
1. *Decreased aid*: The US has significantly reduced its economic and military aid to Pakistan.
2. *Shift in US priorities*: The US has refocused its priorities on other regions, such as the Indo-Pacific and the Middle East.
3. *Pakistan's growing ties with China*: Pakistan's increasing economic and strategic cooperation with China has raised concerns in the US.
Despite these developments, Pakistan remains an important partner for the US, and the two countries continue to engage on various issues.
